blogging

But not here. I guess you could say I have been stepping out on my blog and dear readers à la Tiger Woods except that I have told you that I am poly-blogging, so you went into this with wide open eyes. Please don’t reach for the 7 iron.

Two pieces up at 50 Something. One on marriage, or what constitutes a happy one, that I wrote after reading Weil’s book excerpt at the NYT’s and another on our adventures with the Balloon Man at the children’s Christmas party that Rob’s company hosts every year.

I’ve had three pieces up at Care2 (here, here and here) and even got a kudo from my editor despite my profound lack of journalistic ability. The job is a challenge for me. I like challenges, but I hate not being awesome at what I do. I think this is why I really need to be self-employed. It’s less stressful. My editor also informed me that the second piece on entertainment education provoked a fellow blogger there to request response time – “respectfully, of course” – which makes me shudder a bit. Bloggers are seldom all that subtle or respectful when they take an opposite view and “respectful” usually means that the blogger will not call you names or imply you are descended from cousins in a flaming sort of way but rather in the unmistakably subtle way that people with a flare for words have. Naturally, I can hardly wait to read it.

Ironically, I just left a comment on another blog about how I find posts that are merely excuses to link to other people’s work to be extremely lazy, but since I am linking to my own writing – I will give myself a big ole pass.

It’s amusing to look over the search terms. Below are the searches for the first two days of this month.

Dudley DoRight in all its various forms shows up quite a bit. I am unable to ascertain why but think there may be some porn site involved. One where Horse and Dudley’s love interest finally declare their true feelings for each other.

The queries about over 40 sex, or sometimes it’s just “middle-aged sex” are somewhat sad.

Most of the books I have reviewed land people here at some point and that Lisa Parker still draws googlers is a testament to curiosity.

People are oddly drawn to hair. Men with it  and women without it. And, sadly, fletching [sic] (ed. should be felching?) still brings perverts from all over despite the fact that I mentioned it once in passing in a post a long time ago.

I have to admit that the “saint for widowed men” was a new one. I have no doubt there is one. There is a saint for everything in my version of Catholicism and rightly so.

Peeing continues to be big. I have searches near daily on the topic in some form or another. I guess that means I have blogged a bit too much about it and should give it a rest.

The wedding cake thing perplexes me. Rob’s nephew and his wife had a cake like a ski mountain with a tiny man and women atop and ready to ski down. I wouldn’t have thought it a common wedding theme – skiing – but perhaps this is a sign that there are fewer Disney Princess brides out there than I thought.

Moving on is a big draw too. I am, apparently, a guru of sorts on the topic. There are worse things to be known for but I cannot claim any extra special information. The “moving on” fairies never set up residence in my house.

Blondie Mommix? Clueless. And I am equally out of the loop regarding John Cusack’s New Year’s Eve plans this year. Normally, I would get the memo, but I have been out of the social whirl for a while. But hey, John, if you are at loose ends, you are welcome to drop by. It will probably be just popcorn and a family movie and we go to bed well before midnight. Just saying.

Today marks the official end of the race. I have 7 chapters and about 15,000ish words. Not the 50,000 one needs to be a “winner” but that wasn’t the point of it for me this year. I have proved I can write that and more in a month. There was no need to do it again. This year was about a decent fiction novel.

Of course life got in my way in a big way. There is the writing gig which is more like journalism than I thought it would be and consequently requires more time and effort. There was flu which I am only just, finally, getting over (secondary infections get me every time). We took a holiday and I wanted to live the time rather than spend it at the keyboard.

I won’t be publishing any more of The Fenns online for general consumption. I will move it soon to a private forum and if you want to continue reading you can let me know via email or leave a post.

Not sure about blogging in general. I have slacked quite a bit this month and found I didn’t miss the personal blogging all that much because I have two grogs – 50Something and Care2 as outlets. And the memoir and novel. I also do a lot more of my radical opinion spouting off on Facebook. I have found that people there are more likely to comment on things and engage in conversation.

I made the decision to go ahead on the yoga teacher training and have my application in. I start in January and will be done by June. 200 hours of training all together. My current instructor told me she’d love to have me teach at her studio once I am done. I like that idea a lot.

I am published in an online magazine of late and was picked up for syndication again through 50 Something.

Life feels full to bursting.
