I have visions of speaking French one day as opposed to simply reading it on the packaging at the grocery, but most Anglo-Canadians are not as warmly disposed to the idea bi-lingualism as I am.

We get a lot of products from Canada here, and it always amuses me to find the French on them also. It used to happen more often when I lived closer to the border. I think I could use the “Instant French” thingy.
on holiday in the Gaspe peninsula many years ago – we stopped at the last McDonalds in Natanne… and the kids behind the counter spoke no english whatsoever. My children were blown away when i ordered in pidgeon french – guessing, mostly, but dredging up nuggets from high school courses… always made me feel like such a poser, eh?
Sounds handy. Maybe I’ll order one on the Internet so I can seem more suave.
