An Anti-Meme is the Monday Meme

While meme-ing around I discovered this wordpress post on the evil that is meme. The post’s author decries memes for among other things:

“…wasting valuable internet bandwidth that could be used for furthering the arts.”

I can’t argue with that personally. The time I put into creating these weekly memes could be spent writing the great Canadian novel which will sell like hotcakes, attract Hollywood film offers and finally allow me to keep my ever patient and loving husband in the lap of leisurely luxury he completely deserves.

So what about you, gentle reader? What feats would you attempt? What cures would you discover? Who would you be doing, if you weren’t a pathetic meme addict? πŸ™‚

Write me here or link back.

  1. I like memes. They’re fun. Can’t anyone have any fun anymore? I also get tired of bloggers constantly criticize the medium and the standard features thereof, as if to say, “Yes, I blog, but I’m above blogging.” (Not talking about you, Annie, but the ones you’ve linked to a couple times.) It’s along the same lines of “I don’t watch TV, but when I do, it’s all PBS.” I wish such folks could have the balls to just like what they like and not have to justify themselves.

Fun is not what blogging is about to some people. And there are memes that are mindless. I like ones that ask something of me in some way.

  2. September is the month when I’ll clean up my novel and prep it for submission. I guess that doesn’t really meet the meme standards, but it’s what I would be doing with or without any outside enticement luring me away.

I’m off to start chopping. πŸ™‚

Hey! Me too. Except today the only chopping is zucchinni for the freezer.

  3. I hate to spew my cluelessness all over your blog but I first had to visit Wikipedia to find out what meme was. So. The quote you provide reeks of elitism and pomposity. Who is he to judge how I choose to use my bandwidth? Eh? I take exception with that.

I find the day-to-day slog to keep my family healthy and happy a noble enough fight and am not particularly compelled to look for a greater-cause when I have a bit of downtime. Therefore, a meme-ing I will guiltlessly go…

Just trying to make us all ponder a bit with our meme-ing.

  4. unpacking and organizing the 896 bottles of shampoo, conditioner, hair products, hand lotion, contact lens solution, and the like… i have NO IDEA why i have so much of this…

but yeah… writing MeMe’s is not high on my current list. They are fun when the mood strikes, though…
